Cal Poly Humboldt BA Social Work Program Application Instructions
We welcome you to the admissions process. By this time, you should have completed or be in the process of completing the prerequisite courses for the major, most of your lower division GE courses, and earned a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better.
Applications to begin the following Fall major sequence of courses are due no later than
March 1. Applications received after this date may not be reviewed in time for placement in the appropriate major courses. Notification of acceptance will be made prior to the registration period for fall classes.
The social work major core program is run using a cohort model. A cohort model means that students take courses in a set sequence. Students will not be able to take courses out of order. This model fosters a student-relational community where students take the same classes together for their junior year sequence.
Please note that all accepted students will be required to attend an on-campus* orientations the first day of the Fall semester. This includes students who select the *Distributed Learning (DL) programs.
*On-campus orientation is required.
* DL (online) Students: For students considering our on-line programs, out of area students may need to move to the Superior Region of Northern California to complete their social work degree. Students in the online program must live in the state of California while they are in the social work program. In addition to the coursework, a community placement is required to graduate. The Cal Poly Humboldt Department of Social Work has the most relationships for community placements in the Humboldt service area.
The Humboldt service area in the Superior Region of Northern California includes these counties: Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Nevada, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Yuba.
