Summer School at The Prentice School

Welcome to Summer School at The Prentice School! Our program is dedicated to providing targeted literacy and math support for students with literacy-based challenges, ensuring that each child thrives academically while having a great time during the summer break.  

Program Dates:

  • Summer School runs from June 24, 2024 to July 23, 2024.
  • The 4th & 5th of July will be observed as a holiday, providing a break for everyone to celebrate.

Program Options:

Orton Gillingham Reading & Writing: Grades 1 - 5   Weekdays 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, $1950:

Our specialized literacy program follows the Orton Gillingham approach, a structured, multisensory technique tailored to enhance reading, writing, and spelling skills for children with literacy-based challenges.

Orton Gillingham Reading & Writing: Grades 6 - 8  Weekdays 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, $1950:

Our specialized summer literacy program for grades 6-8 is tailored to address dyslexia and literacy challenges, offering evidence-based interventions, multisensory learning, and small group settings to enhance decoding, encoding, and comprehension skills while fostering confidence and self-expression.

Math Enrichment: Grades 1 - 8  Weekdays 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM, $600:

Math Enrichment sessions are designed to sharpen mathematical skills and foster a love for numbers, making learning both engaging and beneficial.

Fun With Language, Social Detectives: Grades 2 - 4   M/W 1:45 PM - 3:15 PM, $750:

This summer program to enhances social skills, reading comprehension and analytical thinking skills while building language proficiency in a stimulating environment with Mrs. Clark, a Speech & Language Pathologist, focusing on various language domains and organizational writing skills.

Fun With Language, Reading & Writing Detectives: Grades 5 - 8   T/Th  1:45 PM - 3:15 PM, $750:

This program enhances reading comprehension and analytical thinking skills while building language proficiency in a stimulating environment with Mrs. Clark, a Speech & Language Pathologist, focusing on various language domains and organizational writing skills.

Enrollment Information:

  • Participants have the flexibility to choose either one program or a combination of programs that suit your child's interests, needs and grade level. Whether it's literacy lessons, math enrichment or having fun with our Speech Pathologist, you can opt for a single program or enroll in more for a comprehensive experience.
  • A flat $250 non-refundable fee is due at time of application.

In our small group setting, students dive into the explicit and focused Orton-Gillingham methodology with our Orton-Gillingham certified teachers, ensuring a comprehensive approach to language structure. Our instruction emphasizes the use of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways, targeting fluency, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension.

Within this immersive program, students will not only enhance their reading skills but will also be guided through systematic approaches that champion the writing process. Our dedicated teachers equip students with strategies and tools, incorporating multi-sensory elements, visuals, and graphic organizers to enhance their writing skills. 

Grades: 1 - 5

Monday - Friday. 9:00am -12:00pm

Orton-Gillingham Reading & Writing,  Grades: 6 - 8

Our Orton-Gillingham trained and certified staff provides students with small group instruction in the Orton-Gillingham methodology. Focusing on multisensory learning, students engage in activities that strengthen their decoding, encoding, and comprehension skills. Small group settings ensure personalized attention, fostering a supportive environment where students build both literacy proficiency and confidence. Students are taught how to utilize these approaches and strategies to increase their success in writing through the use of multi-sensory tools, visuals, and graphic organizers. 

Grades: 6 - 8

Monday - Friday. 9:00am -12:00pm

Math Enrichment

Students participate in a variety of engaging activities, games, and projects carefully crafted to deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts and establish meaningful connections between math and the real world in leveled groups. From enhancing basic numeracy skills to fostering a love for problem-solving, our Math Enrichment program offers a dynamic and supportive environment where students can confidently embrace the world of mathematics.

Grades: 1 - 8

Fun With Language:  Social Detectives,  Grades 2 - 4 

Discover the keys to social success this summer with our engaging and interactive learning program. Designed to support social learners, our program offers a dynamic blend of lessons, crafts, and games aimed at teaching essential social skills and fostering social executive functioning. From understanding social cues to navigating interpersonal relationships, students will embark on a journey of self-awareness and social problem-solving. Join us for an enriching summer experience where students can develop valuable social skills in a supportive and fun environment.

Fun With Language:  Reading & Writing Detectives,  Grades 5 - 8

Discover the similarities between good readers and skilled detectives as they engage in investigative reading activities inspired by The Prentice Post. Led by Mrs. Clark, an experienced SLP, students will enhance their language skills through activities focused on receptive and expressive language, social pragmatic language, and supralinguistic language. With an emphasis on reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing, students will unravel mysteries, analyze characters, ask questions, make inferences, and write investigative articles.
