Young Writers Awards Submission Form 2024

Please fill out all of the fields below. Students will be contacted through their supporting teacher. The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 30th at 11:59 PM.

A group of literary professionals will adjudicate the works and score them based on three criteria: originality, skill, and emergence of a personal voice. Three awards will be selected in each of the four categories for twelve total award placements. A first, second, and third place prize for each category will be selected. Winners will be notified through their supporting teacher. First prize will be $300, second will be $200, third will be $100, and all winners will be invited to take part in an awards ceremony during the Literary Festival. Winners will have the opportunity to present their work during the Literary Festival and their work highlighted on the Literary Festival’s website.

Short Story: A fictional narrative with a fully developed theme that is written in prose. Max 800 words.

Personal Essay: Writing that describes an important lesson gathered from a writer’s life experiences. Max 1000 words.

Humor: Writing that uses humor as the key element in the form of satire, farce, irony, parody, or absurdity. Maximum 1000 words.

Poetry: Writing in verse. May include but is not limited to prose poetry, free verse, formal poetry, song lyrics, and spoken word. Maximum 800 words.
