Gordon Johnson Award
Application for 2024 Award

Sponsored by the CATESOL Education Foundation, this award recognizes and honors two part-time ESL teachers who have implemented creativity and innovation in the classroom and demonstrated a commitment towards improving their teaching skills. 

- Winners of this award will receive a 1-year CATESOL membership. 

- Up to two winners will be selected.

- You are encouraged to attend the CATESOL Annual Conference in the fall to receive this award, but attendance is not required. You will attend the conference at your own cost.


Criteria for Candidate

- You must be a part-time ESL teacher who is currently teaching ESL in an institution in California.


Timeline

- DEADLINE: June 3rd, 2024

- Winner(s) will be announced by the end of August.

About Gordon Johnson

Having served as an ESL editor and sales representative over the course of his forty-year career, Gordon Johnson valued the creativity demonstrated by many ESL instructors. This award was created in his honor to support the development of ESL classroom innovation.  Professional development plays an essential role in cultivating this creativity. For it is through this additional training that teachers frequently derive innovative strategies and materials for their ESL learners.
