BGI AVID Application 2020-21
Advancement via Individual Determination, AVID, is a college readiness system that is designed to increase the number of students who enroll and graduate from four-year colleges/universities.

In AVID, students receive…
- Challenging and rigorous instruction, emphasizing writing, reading, inquiry, collaboration, and organization
- Academic support from college tutors through collaborative small groups.
- Opportunities to participate in enrichment activities, such as college field trips, guest speakers.
- Strategies for organization, studying, note-taking, and critical thinking.
- Constant encouragement and motivation to pursue academic excellence by teachers, tutors, and peers.

In AVID, students are expected to…
- Enroll in academically rigorous classes that prepare them for high school and college.
- Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA (“C” average), without D’s or F’s.
- Maintain satisfactory behavior and citizenship.
- Spend at least 2 hours nightly studying and completing assignments/homework/projects.
- Come prepared for class – having completed assignments, required school supplies, and other materials.
- Check grades regularly on School Loop and set goals to be accomplished.
- Demonstrate leadership – academically and socially.

To be considered for AVID at BGI, students must:
1) Complete and submit an online application by April 24, 2020.
2) Teacher Recommendations
