GRCB's Youth Activism Project Volunteer Application 2021-2022
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with GRCB as a Youth Activism Coach this school year!

Volunteer positions are open to women and adults with expansive gender identities, 19 years and older. Youth who attend GRCB programming come from a wide range of economic experiences, racial and ethnic identities, gender identities, and neighborhoods. We strive to create a volunteer base that reflects this diversity, and strongly encourage people of color, people who are gender non-binary and/or trans, and any folks who come from traditionally oppressed experiences to volunteer with Girls Rock Campaign Boston.

All new volunteers will be interviewed and a background check is required.

Thank your interest in volunteering with GRCB! Please complete the following application to the best of your ability!

About Youth Activism Project (YAP)
YAP is a free opportunity for girls and youth with marginalized gender identities, ages 13-17 or grades 8-12, to build a supportive community, expand leadership and research skills, and work together to change the status quo.

YAP will meet virtually from 4-6 pm on Tuesdays from October through June.
Volunteers will be asked to be in the zoom call 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after each meeting to check in and debrief.

Youth involved will identify an issue that is important to them, research the issue, share their findings with the community, and take action to make change through activism and creative expression.

This program is facilitated by GRCB but the issues, education, and action will be youth led.

FALL TERM: youth work together to identify a research topic and collect data.
WINTER TERM: youth make meaning out of the data collected and create a workshop or educational event to share their findings with the community.
SPRING TERM: youth take action to make change around their issue through activism and creative expression.

SUMMER 2022: During an optional intensive, YAP youth will take what they have learned and use this process on GRCB itself.  YAP will identify an issue of concern for GRCB youth, conduct research on how well GRCB is addressing this issue, and present their findings to the staff and Board of Directors. This process will make sure youth voices guide the future and decisions of GRCB.
Volunteer Role: Youth Activism Coach
Youth Activism Coaches will collaborate with GRCB staff to co-facilitate the school year of YAP meetings and act as a role model and mentor to 13-17 year-old youth. Coaches will support youth in developing research skills and walk them through the process of sharing their findings and harnessing creative expression to change the status quo.

Youth work background (especially Youth Participatory Action Research or other youth research experience, experience working with youth over virtual platforms, or experience with youth with specific learning needs) is encouraged but not required. No musical experience required.
