4‑H Programming Interests: 

4‑H programs are grounded in the belief that kids learn best by doing. Kids and teens complete hands-on projects in areas like science, health, agriculture and civic engagement, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Kids can concentrate on one focus area or they can try a variety of programs throughout their 4‑H experience.

Regardless of the project area, all 4‑H programs include mentoring and career readiness as core elements!

Volunteer Opportunities: *

  • Club Leader or Co-Leader:4-H Club Leaders organize and manage a youth 4-H club. Coordinate the efforts of other leaders, parents, and 4-H'ers to plan, conduct, and evaluate 4-H club meetings, project groups, and activities.
  • Special Interest Instructor: 4-H offers many short-term ( 6 week) educational programs that generally meet after school or in the evenings, or during the day for homeschool youth or when school is not in session. Examples include sewing, woodworking, horticulture, electricity, quilting, beekeeping, etc.
  • Judge: 4-H offers many competitive events throughout the year, and lots of judges are needed to share their positive comments and expertise. Judges are needed who are knowledgeable about the following topics: sewing, talent, gardening, baking, art, and photography. Judges evaluate each youth’s work using a written evaluation form.
  • 4-H Advisory Board Member: The Advisory Board is the guiding body of the 4-H program. It is made up of a team of 10-15 community, civic, and 4-H leaders who work with local staff to guide and support the local program.
