Santa Clara Swearing-in Ceremony RSVP
Monday, May 13 at 5pm
Mission Church, Santa Clara University

------------------------------------------------------

OATH CARDS:  If you have completed all Bar admission requirements, you will be emailed an oath packet by the State Bar, including a DocuSign PDF oath card.  This card will formalize your Bar admission.  The following instructions differ from the Bar's instructions (which are for a one-on-one swearing-in), please read them carefully:  To complete the swearing-in process, fill out all sections described in steps A, B, C, and D of the oath card instructions:
http://www.calbar.ca.gov/Portals/0/documents/admissions/Examinations/State-Bar-Enrollment.pdf  Per the instructions, you must include an address you agree can be publicly released.  Complete the signature and date the card as of May 13, 2024.  When you have completed your oath card, save it as a PDF and email it as an attachment to lawschooloathcards@scu.edu (do not send a delegation through DocuSign).

The morning after the swearing-in ceremony, the Dean's Office will forward all oath cards to the judge presiding over the ceremony to complete and submit to the State Bar.  Your card will not be returned to you.  It will take the State Bar up to a month to process the cards after they have received them.  We have no way to expedite that process, and cannot provide any status updates about the Bar's processing times.

EVENT:  The swearing-in ceremony will involve state and federal judges delivering the attorney's oath, along with well wishes from representatives of the Santa Clara County Bar Association.  Please arrive no later than 4:45pm.  The ceremony tends to run fairly quickly.  Seats in the front rows of the church are reserved for those being sworn-in.  Guests are welcome and should sit behind the reserved section.

The event will be livestreamed:   https://santaclarauniversity.hosted.panopto.com/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=18186fea-c7f0-418b-8136-b15d013a5249

CAN I BE SWORN-IN SEPARATELY?  You can make your own arrangements to be sworn-in.  The list of officials authorized to swear in new attorneys and sign oath cards is here:  http://www.calbar.ca.gov/Admissions/Examinations/California-Bar-Examination/Attorney-Oath  Many new Bar admittees are choosing to have a notary administer their oath to expedite the swearing-in process.

If you have already been sworn-in, you can still join the Santa Clara ceremony.  Beyond RSVPing, you do not need to submit any other information.

CAN I BE SWORN-IN TO FEDERAL PRACTICE?  We will have a federal judge present to deliver the oath to practice before the Northern District of California.  All other aspects of admission to practice before the federal courts are handled separately:  https://www.cand.uscourts.gov/attorneys/admission-to-practice/
