Hello, musical theater singers in Tucson, Arizona! We are so excited about our upcoming production of ALice by Heart
We have gathered a fantastic production team and want to bring the fierce energy of this show to our high school aged singers forJanuary or 2024 This production is a collaboration between the Inner Voice Studio and Southern Arizona Performing Arts Company. Get ready to sing, dance, and act your faces off.
The musical is Alice by Heart, an indie-folk musical set in 1941. In Alice by Heart, teens are taking shelter in an underground train station during the London bombings. In order to distract themselves, they take on familiar characters, including the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, Caterpillar, Cheshire Cat and Queen of Hearts and use found objects as props. As they travel through the tale, Alice by Heart explores the poignancy of first love, coming to terms with loss, and finding the courage to move forward. This musical encourages us all to celebrate the transformational power of the imagination, even in the harshest of times.
I love doing site-specific, unconventional spaces for pieces like this and we have found an amazing space - a vacant Bookmans - that has exposed brick and an industrial look with exposed ceilings. We are going to build a stage and have scaffolding that the actors can climb with a live band. We want to have a bit of a feel of being an underground rock concert as the actors go back and forth between imagination and the bleak real world. As always, we will promise as much stage time to as many performers as possible and TONS of fun!
