Supporting first-generation students is a critical component of the Counselor Education program at CLU and we continue to work towards improving educational experiences and outcomes for this important student population. We are committed to maintaining a supportive learning environment in which first-generation students feel a strong sense of belonging, as well as personal and academic success. As part of our efforts, we have created the Strive Scholars program to support first generation students in their academic and leadership development. As part of the program, students will attend 4 different workshops during the Fall and Spring semester of their first year. Participants will also be invited to apply to be a Strive mentor to new Strive Scholars the following academic year. We recognize that first generation students bring a great deal of cultural wealth and leadership to the institution, and we look forward to supporting them in their development as scholars and leaders in their communities.
