Ethics of the Moment: Evoking Collective Embodied Intelligence

A 2-hour Encounter with Drs. Leticia Nieto and Matt Goldenberg

The human dilemma of time is experienced both as limitless and limited, both usable and scarce, and ultimately non-renewable while also being shapeable.  We encounter stories, places, and even objects as designed for a single use and are often plagued by this aloneness.  In this embodied psychodramatic exploration, we aim to construct shared meaningful language and draw connections between groups who seem recklessly divided.  We will tend to our inability to pass ideas between minds without a thorough emotional life cycle, and we will search for opportunities to expand into a longer dialogue.

Ethics Focus: Informed by the codes of ethics (ACA, AAMFT, APA) we will observe the relationship between key professional values, ethical principles, and ethical decision making given the conditions of the present moment. We will pay special attention to reflective practice in the development of anti-oppressive therapeutic engagement for social justice.

Learning Objectives: After attending this workshop, participants will be able to
1. Differentiate between a perception of threat and a threat of perception
2. Practice expressive methods to identify shared meaning across inter-sectional social locations.

2. What prior contact have you had with the two presenters, if any? *
3. Will you agree to the following norm for the workshop: "In this group we center historically mistreated, currently marginalized, and often devalued voices. We recognize the dehumanizing impact of white/euro-centric norms and seek cultural humility by rejecting anti-immigrant rhetoric and action. We affirm the self-determination of indigenous and native communities. We value traditional stories and decolonization. We work to deconstruct gender oppression by integrating feminist and trans-valuing orientations. We actively disrupt ageism, ableism, classism, racism and heterosexism. We extend welcome to members of all faiths and to those who do not identify as having a religious orientation. We notice that the multiply marginalized hold data for humanization for all. We are planning an environment with an ethic of action-to-encounter rather than large group discussion. Thank you for the agreement to work what arises through action (rather than discussion/debate).  We are co-creating a space of kindness and respect".   *
Thank you!
