Registration for October 15th Lab E: Social Gathering (In-Person)

In the lead up to our Convening of Chicago’s Disabled Artists on December 3, we are hosting a pair of social gatherings for the community. These are relaxed spaces where you are encouraged to come and go as needed and just spend some time with your fellow disabled artists.

Join us for an in-person gathering of disabled artists! Enjoy music from DJ Ariella Granados and spend time with your fellow Deaf & disabled artists in a relaxed environment. Multiple types of seating, ASL interpretation, and light snacks provided. This gathering is open to Deaf, disabled, sick, neurodivergent, and Mad artists working in all mediums. For this month’s LabE, we will meet entirely in-person at Experimental Station.

When: Sunday, October 15, 2023, 1-3pm Central

Where: This is an in-person event that will take place at the Experimental Station (6100 S Blackstone Ave, Chicago, IL 60637).

For those unable to attend in-person events, we will hold a virtual social gathering as November’s LabE event.

Who: This gathering is open to Deaf, disabled, sick, neurodivergent, and Mad artists working in all mediums.

Access Information: Jordan Brown will provide ASL interpretation. The first floor of Experimental Station, where the event will be held is wheelchair accessible, including accessible bathrooms.

We ask that all attendees wear masks for the duration of the event, but please note that Experimental Station is a public building and that there will likely be unmasked people in the building. For those unable to mask or to risk being in a public space, we are offering a virtual social gathering as November’s LabE event.

This event is intended to be relaxed, welcoming and comfortable for all in the space. We will have multiple forms of seating available, as well as a few stim tools. You are welcome to come and go, bring your own access tools, and move about the space as needed during the event.

Please refrain from wearing any scented perfume, cologne, lotion, etc.

Contact: Please reach out to Maggie Bridger at magbridger@gmail.com with any questions about access needs or requests for access services/tools not mentioned here.

Please choose the option that best fits your access needs and schedule, but do not worry if your plans change. All registrants, including those registered to attend in-person, will be sent the zoom link just in case plans change. We understand that energy levels and access needs may change between registration and the event. Your answer here will help us to plan the agenda and for arranging the space at the Experimental Station.
Which access services or tools will help you to feel comfortable and participate fully in this event?
We invite you to think broadly about what we can do to make this space as comfortable as possible for you. Are there particular types of seating that would be helpful? Would it be helpful to have yoga mats for folks to lay down on? Would heating pads or ice packs be useful to you? We've included a few ideas below, but please feel free to use the "other" option if what you need is not represented here. Let us know how we can make this space most inviting for you and we will do our best to help.
Do you have any questions or topics that you would like to make sure we address during our discussion?
