The organization of Bounce and Chattersense are interested in developing a covid19 response summer project. These organisations specialize in supporting the health and wellbeing of children and young people who have additional support needs. This project will take into account the ongoing likelihood of social distancing and health and safety precautions.
This summer project is a “sports” group that will address physical, sensory and social needs. We want to support families across the west of Scotland in a safe, fun and socially distanced environment. The group is aimed at children who have struggled with the pandemic and the transition back to school. Additionally, this group is aimed at children and young people who have difficulties with the long school holidays, which we know can be challenging at the best of times. We want this summer to be fun, interesting and exciting (while getting therapy at the same time). We recognize that children with sensory and communication challenges are also part of a family and we would love to include siblings in quality shared experiences that they might not otherwise get.
We propose a summer project, called “Sense of Adventure” which will take part over a 3-week period. The first 3 weeks will be dedicated to primary age children and the other 3 weeks will be for secondary school age. We propose to work with your child Monday-Friday for 1 hour each day for 3 weeks.
During the 1-hour session, the focus will include a variety of games targeting physical, sensory, cognitive and social development. In addition to the individual session, we will offer the opportunity to be involved in fun remote teams challenge that the children and young people will take part in to score points for their teams. This seeks to encourage team working, social and communication skills.
The aim of this survey is for us to identify and tailor a program that helps meet the needs of children and families in Scotland. We thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this survey and contibuting to the development of this summer project.
