Multiple Subjects Student Teaching Placement Request Form
In addition to academic coursework, the UCSC MA/Credential Program requires a 9 - 10 month student teaching experience. Your student teaching is a crucial part of the MA/Credential Program, and we work very hard to find placements with expert teachers who will guide your development as a teacher.

To ensure the best placement possible, please carefully complete the online form below. If you have questions, please refer to the Multiple Subject Student Teaching Overview on our website. You may also email Dr. Soleste Hilberg, Program Director, at soleste@ucsc.edu if you have additional questions (Dr. Kip Téllez will serve as acting director from April through June, ktéllez@ucsc.edu).

As you complete the form, please keep in mind that at least one of your placements must be in a school with a significant number of English Learners. Thus, many of our placement schools are outside the city of Santa Cruz. You should plan on commuting or carpooling to schools some distance from campus (e.g., Watsonville, Castroville). The daily combination of traveling to placement and then to classes on campus makes reliable transportation a must.

FORM MUST BE SUBMITTED BY: MAY 1

Beginning Placement and Intermediate/Advanced Placement
Most students will have two separate placements:

- a first placement, Beginning, for the Fall Quarter and
- a second placement, Intermediate/Advanced, for Winter and Spring Quarters.

If you think that you will want to begin your teaching career in the upper elementary grades, you should select lower grades for your first placement and upper grades for your second placement.
Beginning Student Teaching (Fall Quarter Placement)  *Please select one grade level of choice for Beginning Student Teaching. *
If you selected a preference, please explain the reasons for your grade-level choice for the Beginning Student Teaching Placement. *Please provide detailed information about your experience with the grade level selected. *
Intermediate & Advanced Student Teaching Placement
Since the time spent in the second student teaching assignment is longer than the first, and the level of participation is more intensive, we recommend that your second student teaching placement should be at the grade level you prefer to be employed in as a teacher. For example, students who want to teach 3rd– 5th grade are typically placed in a kindergarten, first or second grade classroom for the first student teaching assignment and in a third, fourth or fifth grade classroom for the longer, second student teaching assignment.
Intermediate & Advanced Student Teaching (Winter & Spring Quarter Placement)  *Please select one grade level of choice for Intermediate & Advanced Student Teaching, this should be at least 2 grades apart from your Beginning Student Teaching selection. *
If you selected a preference, please explain the reasons for your grade level choice for theIntermediate & Advanced Student Teaching Placement. *Please provide detailed information about your experience with the grade level selected. *
