Modern-day slavery is an issue of increasing importance in the fashion industry. What can be done (both nationally and globally) to make global supply chains more transparent in the future?
COVID-19 has brought global economies to a standstill and knocked the confidence in international supply chains at a time when “onshoring” - manufacturing products for local markets from regional suppliers and producers - has gained traction in the UK. In your opinion, would businesses benefit from pivoting to more localised value chains, and how should they do this? Please name and detail key points to support your answer.
Fashion faces an unprecedented series of challenges because of the global impact of climate change, combined with the on-going effects of COVID-19 and more locally from Brexit uncertainty. With this in mind, what changes need to be made to work towards a more sustainable future in the fashion industry? Please name key points to support your answer.
From increased reports of environmentally polluting supply chain operations, to the impacts of COVID-19 and Brexit, the fashion industry is facing increasing global and national scrutiny. In your opinion, how can Government and policy better support the fashion industry in the future?
How can we “democratise” the sustainability of fashion, in order to make this an issue that is relatable for everyone - not just those in industry? Please give examples of campaigns, policies and outcomes that would support this.
In light of climate change and modern-day slavery in the global south and across fashion’s supply chains more generally, how can we create greater consumer awareness to work towards a sustainable future? What do you believe are the key lessons to take away from this period?
