Parent Return to School Option Enrollment

Rowan County has three options for returning to school.  Completing this form will be your child’s enrollment status.  If you are not comfortable completing this enrollment form online or have further questions to help make your decision, please call your child’s school for more information.  You can refer to your school's website for the "“What My School Day Will Look Like” guidance document.

Please submit one form by July 29th for every student you have attending Rowan County Schools.

Option 1 – In-person
Basic Definition Traditional learning in the student’s assigned building and teacher(s).  In-person instruction will be supported through teacher created Google Classroom lessons/activities.

Student Enrollment All current Rowan County students are automatically enrolled unless Option 1 is not selected as their return to school choice.  

Teachers In-person instruction will be provided by each student’s assigned teacher(s).

Curriculum and Instruction In-person learning will be at the same content and pacing as normal. Students who are currently enrolled in services such as special education, gifted/talented, English Learner, hearing/vision, speech will continue to receive those services as normal.

Extracurricular Activities Students may continue to participate in KHSAA sports and extra-curricular activities at the school level.
Option 2 – Blended Learning

Basic Definition Blended learning looks as much like face-to-face instruction as possible.  Students must have internet access and parent support at home is preferred.   Instruction can include live, streamed classes, video lessons, Google Meet and other methods.  Teachers will be using Google Classroom to help facilitate blended learning.

Student Enrollment Blended Learning students will be enrolled in their normal school just as in-person learning.  Students in this option may attend in-person classes if there is a need for direct teacher support which will need to be scheduled with the teacher before attending.  Blended learning will have the same attendance expectations as in-person learning (students will complete work daily).

Teachers Blended Learning will be provided by each student’s assigned teacher(s); however, depending on the number of students, the district may assign some teachers who only facilitate and teach blended instruction.

Students who are currently enrolled in  services such as special education, gifted/talented, English Learner, hearing/vision, speech will continue to receive those services in-person and/or virtually.

Extracurricular Activities Students may continue to participate in KHSAA sports and extra-curricular activities at the school level.

Option 3 – Rowan County Online Learning Academy

Basic Definition A virtual school that students can attend in place of traditional in-person instruction.  Follows the same calendar as the district and has set hours for students to attend online meetings and participate in virtual classes.)

Student Enrollment The Rowan County Online Learning Academy serves only Rowan County students and Rowan County teachers are facilitating.  Students must remain enrolled in the Online Learning Academy for at least a nine-week period, at which time students may re-enter the building for in-person learning. Curriculum and pacing will not match that of in-person instruction.  Students will have teacher support through virtual methods using Google Meet.

Teachers Specific Rowan County teachers will be assigned to facilitate classes for the Online Learning Academy. Teachers from all grade levels will be asked to teach students from across the district.  Students may not have a teacher from their assigned school.

Curriculum and Instruction Online Learning Academy instruction will be at the same pace as in-person instruction. Students who are currently enrolled in services such as special education, gifted/talented, English Learner, hearing/vision, speech will continue to receive those services virtually.

Extracurricular Activities Students may continue to participate in KHSAA sports and extra-curricular activities at the school level. However, this Online Learning Academy course does not meet NCAA course eligibility.  

Food Service Meals are available daily at McBrayer Elementary School for curbside pickup (time to be determined)
