Could your middle or high school kids be candidates for a free skills training to prevent future substance use or mental illness?
The Westport Prevention Coalition, a collaboration of Westport Human Services, Westport Public Schools, and local nonprofit agencies, is pleased to be offering the PreVenture program at no charge to eligible Westport teens.
PreVenture is an evidence-based, 2-session skills training aimed at middle or high school aged students who could be at future risk of substance use or mental illness. It has been proven effective in reducing risk even two years after participating in the program.
Eligibility is based on a very short (23 questions) personality quiz called the SURPS, which is used to determine whether a teen is in a high-risk group. After a teen takes the quiz, we inform the family if the teen qualifies for the skills training and provide information about what to expect, along with a consent form for you & your teen to sign if your teen will be participating. There is no requirement to participate in the training after taking the quiz, and not everyone who takes the quiz will qualify for the training. The training is presented in 2 community -based workshops aimed at helping kids explore their personality, coping strategies, and set long-term goals.
If you are interested in having your teen(s) take the quiz to see whether they may be eligible, please let us know below.
