CAPEA is an organization of professors from private and public colleges and universities and leaders from the PK-20 school systems, dedicated to further developing and informing social justice-centered educational leaders. We seek to vitalize the discourse necessary for blending theory and practice in ways consistent with current research and impending projections while also strengthening networks with other professional and public entities for the continued improvement of education in California.

Humanizing Leadership Through Radical Care

As discussed by Dr. Rosa L. Rivera-McCutchen, “…radical (care) is central to the work of successful school leadership.” Foundational to radical care is antiracist leadership, “which provides a lens for understanding how structural racism shapes and constrains the schooling experiences” of underserved students.

The CAPEA Fall 2022 Conference invites proposals on leadership that reflect a stance of radical care, especially as it serves to develop positive experiences for underserved youth and the communities in which we practice. Expanding on Dr. McCutchen’s framework, the proposals should consider the following:
