2024 WAYJO Composer-in-Residence Application
The WA Youth Jazz Orchestra offers young jazz composers exciting paid opportunities to develop a new work and enhance their big band writing skills.

Through its annual Composer-in-Residence program, WAYJO supports three emerging composers to develop new works for its Wednesday Night Orchestra by offering commission fees, artistic mentorship and professionally recorded audio and video content for their portfolio.

Opportunities are available for
an Australian composer under the age of 30.
an Australian composer who identifies as female or gender diverse, under the age of 30.
a West Australian composer under the age of 21.

This is a rare opportunity for composers to create new music for big band without creative restrictions or boundaries. We encourage forward thinking and creative ways of using the big band, as it is the only way that this music can move forward and evolve.
