We review records requests in the order in which they are received.
If the requested information does not exist or if the Department of Public Instruction is not a custodian of the records, the requestor will be notified within 5 business days.
NOTE:
*As permissible within G.S. 132-6.2 (b), the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) reserves the right to charge for public records requested that require “extensive use of information technology resources or extensive clerical or supervisory assistance by personnel of the agency involved.” If a request meets the aforementioned description, the requestor will be notified in advance of the work beginning. In these instances, NCDPI will seek to confirm if the requestor would like to proceed given the charges will be based on the labor of the personnel providing the services.
*Effective Tuesday, October 26, 2021, a requestor must pay all outstanding invoices before the agency will review and process any additional public records request.
*Please remember that public records requests, and responses to those requests, may also be considered public records.
