Thank you for your interest in partnering with the Film Studies Program at UNC Charlotte!
Please review the following information prior to completing the partnership form.
Internship partnerships are exclusive to Film Studies Program students. Interns are typically Junior and Senior-level students in good academic standing. Each semester, interested students complete separate internship forms to ensure successful collaboration for both parties.
Internships typically require 110 contact hours to equal a 3-credit course which counts towards their Film Studies Program work. Internships are not required, and are open to Film Studies students who are interested in participating in a professional environment as part of their academic experience.
All interns are Film Studies Minor and/or Certificate in Video Production students who have completed at least half their Program work.
Internships range in organization, work and format. Depending on the nature of your proposed internship, you may request students with specific production skills and/or pre-professional experience. In some cases, students with specific academic backgrounds can be requested by organizations based on the nature of the internship work.
Internship experiences are designed for:
- Providing students access to pre-professional experiences during their college tenure
- Work within Film Studies Program's areas of focus, including but not limited to film production, media marketing, community-based work, cultural event, etc. (Program information is available at filmstudies.charlotte.edu)
- General and specific project + organizational support (depending on the nature of current projects)
- Students to gain exposure to professional organizations' operations
- Student support in advancing organizations' goals while providing access to professional experiences
Internship experiences are not designed for:
- Pro bono marketing and/or commercial materials for the submitting organization
- Work outside Film Studies Program's areas of focus (please familiarize yourself with the Program prior to submission via filmstudies.charlotte.edu)
- Full-time employee substitutes
- Administrative support positions without access to professional experiences
- Ongoing work significantly beyond a semester length and/or 110 contact hours
- Organizations and/or individuals who are not registered businesses / non-profits
Should your organization have new and/or ongoing internship requests, please complete the form below for each internship position.
Internships are highly selective for students as well as organizations. The Film Studies Program carefully curates partnerships with students and organizations to help ensure a successful experience for both parties.
Internships are not guaranteed upon completion of the form. Film Studies is a diverse Program which students across nearly all Colleges and Departments at UNC Charlotte. Internships are dependent on students pursuing a concurrently relevant professional experience. All internships must be approved by the Director of Film Studies Program through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Internships take place during the Fall, Spring or Summer sessions typically, with flexibility based on particular project workflows and organizational missions. In some cases students and organizations may decide to continue working beyond the initial internship experience; any additional work is not part of the Internship Program and should be agreed upon by the student and organization and stated to the Film Studies Program.
If you wish to have an ongoing internship partnership, please mention this in the Form below. The Film Studies Program is proud to have numerous ongoing collaborative partnerships, as well as students who have transitioned into full-time positions with organizations post-graduation.
Below are questions designed to help partner your organization with ideal student candidates. Please include any particular hard skillsets (i.e. technical skills, software knowledge) and soft skillsets (i.e. strong communication, organization) as necessary for a successful internship.
Internship opportunities remain open to students up to 6 months, or until the position is filled. If you wish to remove your internship application,
write a request to wsdavis@uncc.edu. If you have significant application updates, submit a new form and mention a previous application form was submitted so it can be replaced.
Direct any questions to William S. Davis, Director of Film Studies at wsdavis@uncc.edu, and thank you again for your interest in partnering with the Film Studies Program and engaging with the next generation of creative professionals!
