Foods/Fashions (Miss Toeckes) - Introduction to safety and sanitation while working in a kitchen. Focus will be on use of equipment, measuring accurately and following a written recipe. Next Level - Learn how to work safely in the sewing room, practice your independence by threading your machine and troubleshooting minor problems. Improve your sewing skills while making a small project - wheat bag and cover. Blanketing stitching has made a come back; learn how to sew this stitch and use it on a mini project.
Construction (Mr. LaGrange) - Students can expect to begin the year working on drafting, sketching, measuring, designing, safety, wood technology, woodworking tools and processes. Students will focus on simple woodworking projects that focus on skill development.
French (Mrs.McLaren) - An introduction into the French language. Students will focus on listening, speaking and reading basic French phrases and vocabulary to greet someone, describe school subjects and activities, the weather and Friends. They will also compare different Francophone cultures.
Art (Mrs. Keys) - In this course, students will work with multiple media to develop and bring their designs to life. Students will be introduced to the design and revision process to bring their ideas to life in projects that contain the elements of art.
STEM (Mrs. Wasylik) - STEM is an abbreviation for four connected areas of study: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. In this class, you will have an opportunity to use your imagination and creativity to design and create various projects with commonly available materials.
Outdoor Ed (Mrs.Loshny) - Students will learn a variety of useful knots. They will learn fire starting, how to find direction without a compass, what to pack on a hike, bear safety, and shelter building. They will experience these skills both in school as well on field trips.
Media Studies/Technology (Mr. Naicker) - Students will develop media literacy skills. They will learn about media issues and will work to create different media projects.
Learning Opportunities (Ms. Nokes) - Students can expect to focus on reading skills and comprehension strategies using games, activities, and technology. We will also have time to focus on refining our writing skills and apply these skills to our classroom assignments. In this class, students will have an opportunity to stay caught up on their work and receive teacher assistance on classroom assignments.
Genious Hour (Miss Tonery) - Students will be building and learning about their own personal passions to enahnce their skill set in a given area. This class will require students to research, create and share a project based on these passions.
