INTRODUCTION: In this week's Good News Gospel lesson, Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd. He tells his friends that he knows and cares for them just as a shepherd cares for his sheep. Jesus says he will even lay down his life for his sheep, whom he knows by name. Let's look at the cover page of your Good News Weekly and read "Jesus Is Our Good Shepherd." Then answer the questions below.

So what does a shepherd do when the sheep run out of grass? When the sheep are thirsty? When a wolf comes near? Or a sheep gets caught in the briars? Sheep are followers and they depend on a shepherd to keep them safe. The Shepherd does all he can to take care of and protect his sheep. Jesus is our Good Shepherd who takes care of us. Jesus came to lead us toward safety. He came to die for our sins to save us and he wants to lead us toward the life he has planned for us. Now let's take some time to find in your Good News cover page picture the eight hidden wolves in the picture. I have attached the answer key to this lesson so that you can see if you found them all. Good luck!
How many hidden wolves did you find?

Great job! So who takes care of you like a good shepherd takes care of his sheep? If you said your parents, grandparents and/or teachers, you would be right. Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd because he cares for his followers like a shepherd cares for his sheep. Most parishes have a pastor. The pastor is a priest, like Father Bill, who leads and cares for the people in his parish, much like a shepherd cares for his sheep. In our next lesson, we are going to learn more about the "Shepherds of Our Church."
