Items will be collected from designated drop off points, or from donors’ homes.

All items will be quarantined for an appropriate period after pickup.

Data can be recovered if required and be placed on an external hard drive or USB memory stick for return to the donor. Charges will apply to cover the cost of the storage and recovery depending on the amount of data to be recovered. Indicative charge:

• Up to 8GB – USB memory stick £10
• Up to 64GB – USB memory stick £20
• Up to 128GB – USB memory stick £30
• Up to 500GB – Portable hard drive £50
• Up to 1TB – Portable hard drive £60

All devices will be wiped using professional software to HMG Infosec Standard 5, Higher Standard (3-pass overwrite plus 1 verification pass). A certificate of data destruction can be supplied for a fee of £10.

Instructions can be provided for the donor to wipe their data before donation, but devices will still be securely wiped regardless.

Devices will be refurbished to ensure they are ready for donation with the following software:
• Ubuntu Linux or Linux Lite operating system (depending on the age and specifications of the device)
• LibreOffice office productivity software
• Zoom for video calling
• Remote access software for providing remote support

Any devices that cannot be repaired or refurbished will be dismantled, and any usable parts will be re-used or sold. Any storage device salvaged in this way will be securely wiped as above. Any profits from the sale of parts or data recovery will be re-invested into the project. In donating a device, the donor agrees to allow this to happen.
