Joint TREX Application - Selkirk TREX and Columbia Gorge TREX
Join us this fall in Washington state for two Prescribed Fire Training Exchanges (TREX). This application covers both the Selkirk TREX and the first ever Columbia Gorge TREX. You can apply to either or both. You will only be able to attend one TREX.

Selkirk TREX
October 2-13, 2023
Loon Lake, WA
At the Selkirk TREX, NWCG minimum qualifications as a Firefighter 2 will be required. Online and field training may be available to attain these minimum standards. Contact us for more details. Position taskbook training opportunities will be available.

Columbia Gorge TREX
October 9-20, 2023
Glenwood, WA
At Columbia Gorge TREX, NWCG and non-NWCG participants will be accepted (i.e., no minimum qualifications are required). Position taskbook training opportunities will be available for NWCG-qualified participants. Participants without NWCG qualifications will also be able to fully participate in burns with one-on-one mentorship.

At both TREX events, participants will be part of a TREX team that will support burns with Federal, State, Tribal land managers and on private lands. During the training participants will learn, practice, and share knowledge, skills, and experience in a unique, hands-on training environment focused on fire management, ecology, outreach, monitoring, and operational dimensions of planning and implementing prescribed fire. Participants will serve in qualified and trainee positions on a burn team.

This application closes July 17.

Space and training roles are limited. Selections and notifications for both the Selkirk TREX and Columbia Gorge TREX will be made in early August.

A $300 registration fee will be required on selection to either TREX to help cover costs of food and lodging.

These trainings are hosted, organized, and supported by the following partners: Washington Prescribed Fire Council, Washington Resource Conservation & Development Council, Mt. Adams Resource Stewards, The Nature Conservancy, Washington Department of Natural Resources, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish & Wildlife Service, National Park Service, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, Kalispel Tribe, and The Ember Alliance.

More information and details on the TREX events can be found here.
