About the Workshop
The 9th International Coastal Atlas Workshop (ICAN 9) will be held online from September 27th to 29th 2021, with a series of live and recorded content. The workshop will provide an opportunity to present and discuss recent innovations in atlases, how atlases can contribute to the goals of the UN´s Decade of Ocean Science and it will also investigate synergies with other initiatives such as the IODE OceanInfoHub.  

Abstract submissions and workshop presentations may be made in English, Spanish, Portuguese, or French, and all plenary sessions will be available in these four languages.

Session I - Coastal Atlas Community: aiming to introduce new and established resources and connect with the wider coastal web atlas (CWA) community

To submit to this session, please address one or more of the following in your submission:
what issues does your Atlas address?
what design approaches are used?
what technologies are employed?
How do you engage with your user community?

Session II – Atlases, the UN Decade & the SDGs: aiming to explore how our CWA’s can contribute to and link in with the UN Decade of Ocean Sciences and the Sustainability Goals

To submit to this session, please address one or more of the following in your submission:
How does your Atlas see itself as situated within the global context?
How does your Atlas contribute to Goal 14 of the SDGs?
How can online tools and resources contribute to knowledge sharing for our coasts?

Session III - Sharing your Atlas with the World: aiming to explore how Atlases can share their content more effectively

To submit to this session, please address one or more of the following in your submission:
How does your Atlas share content beyond your local audience?
How has your Atlas addressed challenges in resource sharing?
How has your user community benefited from resource sharing?

Description of Formats
In order to accommodate as many participants as possible in the ICAN 9 workshop will accept both LIVE and recorded presentations, and both regular length (15 minutes) and flash or lightning (3 minutes) presentations. A poster session will be organized via the ICAN website, and poster submissions may also include a recorded overview (2 minutes).
