At the meeting held on October 26, 2021, the Monroe County School Board voted to revise existing policies regarding the use of facial coverings at Monroe County School District facilities, making them optional for all staff, students and visitors. The CDC continues to recommend universal indoor masking by all students (age 2 and older), staff, teachers, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status, as an important strategy to mitigate against the spread of COVID-19.

To help honor parental preference regarding the recent district-wide update to optional facial coverings at schools, the May Sands Montessori School asks families complete one form for each child who will be opting out of wearing a facial covering over their nose and mouth.
