The Lazaridis Students’ Society, also referred to as “LazSoc”, has the mission of creating unique extracurricular and career development opportunities for the entire club's community. A key part of this goal is to ensure that every Lazaridis student feels comfortable, included and represented in our community. As such this student advocacy form serves to provide a safe and secure place for students to voice opinions, suggestions, concerns, feedback and more.
LazSoc is committed to encouraging and upholding principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within its organization and affiliated clubs. LazSoc believes that its achievements cannot come without a welcoming and inclusive environment that has a foundation based upon the collaboration and involvement of diverse people and communities. We want to ensure that all students feel supported and represented by LazSoc while we work alongside the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics.
We, as an organization, recognize that there is a gap in the Lazaridis and Laurier community regarding the support of equity deserving groups, and have made it a priority to ensure that all LazSoc initiatives reflect our values of EDI. We acknowledge that there has been a lack of support and validation to those who identify and belong to equity deserving groups, and we know that we have a responsibility to change this. It is our goal to ensure that LazSoc truly represents the diverse group of students that make up the Lazaridis and Laurier community. We are continuing to find new ways to foster inclusivity throughout our organization and affiliated clubs.
There are many great resources that Laurier provides regarding the education and support topics regarding EDI. These include the Rainbow Centre, the Accessible Learning Centre (ALC), and the Centre for Student Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (CSEDI), who can provide guidance when creating an EDI action plan. LazSoc encourages all clubs to use these resources through the process of creating and promoting an equitable, diverse, and inclusive atmosphere.
