Open Call for Proposals: Publishing with Moniker Press

Moniker Press is a risograph print and publishing studio that works collaboratively with artists and writers to produce small editions of books, zines and print ephemera. Located in Vancouver, Canada on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Moniker Press is a publishing project that produces 4-6 works annually through an open call. With the aim to cultivate a slow intentional practice that centres collaboration, and focuses on integrating design, content and form within the medium of riso printing. MP takes particular interest in supporting work that is visually engaging but also offers new, radical, and unexplored perspectives on contemporary topics and issues.

Guidelines:

• The following application form is intended to gain an understanding of your practice and the type of publication you want to publish with Moniker Press, most of the fields are not required but we suggest filling out as much information as possible keeping in mind that slow/collaborative publishing leaves room for process and change.

• This is an open call for proposals so there is no deadline*. (submissions will be reviewed bi-monthly.) Moniker Press produces a limited amount of publications per year but we may refer to past proposals in the future. Note that publications typically take 3-6 months to complete with a flexible deadline (slow publishing methods). *Approximate review dates for those who need deadlines to work towards: Sept 15, Nov 15, Jan 15, Mar 15, May 15, July 15.

• Eligible projects can include (but not limited to) exploration with art (any medium), design or writing, but should demonstrate a clear reason/interest in risograph printing for the final form.

• Zines and prints are the most common formats that Moniker Press publishes. MP does not publish works that already have been produced, are complete, already copyrighted, or are standard: exhibition/art catalogs, novels, kids books, magazines, comics (unless experimental). We suggest reviewing our past publications to see if your work might be the right fit for Moniker Press.

• Proposals from any location are accepted, however we may prioritize local artists.

• Multiple proposals by the same artist are permitted, however please do not repeat the same application, we will review all applications.

• We strongly encourage and will support proposals from those who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+ and/or within other marginalized communities.

• If this submission form is a barrier for you please contact MonikerPressStudio@gmail.com so we can figure out a more accessible proposal format that works for you.

*** NOTE: Applications are only being reviewed for 2025-26 deadlines only, there's been many awesome proposals for 2023/24 and we are at capacity (as much as we wish to publish them all), thank you! Notification for 2025-26 will occur in early 2025***
