2023 Lakewatch Mussel Monitoring Form
Mussel Monitoring at Pigeon Lake

This form is to be filled out once per month when you check your zebra/quagga mussel pipe (substrate). Adult zebra/quagga mussels are 1-3 cm in length and attach to infrastructure (pipe, propellers etc.) using strong byssal threads. Our native mussels do not attach themselves as they do not have byssal threads. Other life may attach to your pipe: snails, crusty algae, leech eggs and more. To thoroughly check your pipe, please rub your hand along it, feeling for the formation of hard mussel shells.

If you have any questions, contact the Alberta Lake Management Society (ALMS) at 780-415-9785 or send ALMS a message at https://alms.ca/contact-us/
