Nichomachean Ethics Reading Group Sign Up
Please read these instructions before filling out the form!

This semester, the Cornell chapter of the Thomistic Institute is organizing a reading group of Aristotle's Nichomachean Ethics! This work strongly informs Thomas Aquinas' ethics, particularly his account of virtue, and it is our hope that by working through this classic text we will not only be better equipped to read Aquinas but also to consider the ethical dimension of our own lives through the lens of Aristotle's thought.

The nominal plan for the reading group is to meet on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 pm, though there is a small chance that the timing could change if a significant number of interested persons could not make that time. See the questions below for more details. Regardless, our first meeting of ten will be in-person on Cornell's campus during the week of February 7th. We will move to Zoom for the first few meetings, however, if university policy dictates it. If you are interested in joining us, please fill out this brief form!

The national Thomistic Institute has generously provided the books for us, so there is no need for members to purchase the book on their own. We do ask that if you accept a book, you commit to coming to at least six of the ten meetings so that we ensure that everyone who wants to participate fully will be able to receive one of the free books. The Cornell TI will be in touch before the first meeting on February 7th to coordinate passing off the book!

The nominal plan for this reading group is to meet in-person on Cornell's campus on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 pm beginning on February 7th and ending around the beginning of May (with breaks for a few of those weeks for a total of ten sessions).  Are you available at this time? *
There is a small chance that the day of the week could be shifted to Tuesday or the meeting time could be slightly adjusted, depending on the needs of those who commit to joining the group and the schedule of other events. What is your availability on Tuesdays? *
If you would like to elaborate on your answers to the previous two questions about your availability (e.g. would need to come late, leave early, another time would work better, etc.), please do so here or by emailing us at thomisticinstitutecornell@gmail.com.
I need a copy of the book (Aristotle's Nichomachean Ethics, Irwin translation, Hackett Publishing 3rd edition), and I understand that in accepting the book I am committing to attending at least six of the meetings. *
