ITAMA - Medical and Healthcare Professionals Questionnaire
ITAMA (https://www.itamaproject.eu/) is a project which proposes a new way to diagnose coeliac disease (CD) quicker and more efficiently. This approach is currently being tested on around 20,000 children of paediatric age in Malta and Italy. Our medical research team is led by Professor Giuseppe Magazzu' (Policlinico di Messina) and Dr. Christopher Barbara (Mater Dei Hospital).

After we have established the efficacy of this approach through this intensive study, we aim to bring it to wider use across Europe. Therefore, it is extremely important for us to understand the CD diagnostic pathway and some other specificities in the country/ies you are familiar with. We would really appreciate it if you could take part in this brief survey.

Please describe where you work or which organisation you represent *
(e.g. a local hospital, a regional Reference Center for CD that also collects data from other structures, a regional administrative or statistical office that also collects even from other structures etc.)
In which country/ies are you working? *
Could you please describe the standard diagnostic pathway for CD? *
(e.g. starting with specific surveys, then IgA anti-TTG test, HLA typing genetic test, Blood sample, Endoscopy, biopsy etc.)
After which of the steps above, can a positive and/or negative diagnosis be confirmed? *
Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, are there social or other benefits for patients in your country/ies to compensate for higher gluten free food costs? What are these benefits? *
In the region/country where you operate, are there reimbursements for preventive diagnosis/care especially in digital products etc. i.e. can a software product get a reimbursement status in the national insurance? *
As for patients, what is required in practice to trigger the CD diagnosis pathway? *
(E.g. screening programmes referral of symptomatic patients spontaneously or by doctors to a laboratory for blood test or to a tertiary center)
Are you aware of any ongoing/planned discussions on a mass screening programme for CD in your country? *
Are you aware that computer systems based on artificial intelligence can be used to improve the quality of a CD diagnosis and would you be interested in having the results of your tests double-checked by such a system? *
Do you have any suggestions about eventual research topics on Coeliac disease that can be investigated on a European level?
Would you take part in an interview to help us deepen our understanding of any of the topics above? If yes, please write your name and  email address in the field below.
