Circle Missions
Community Gardens: The gardens circle is a networking circle to share gardening tips and resources, learn from NC Ag Extension Master Gardeners, and hear about funding or training opportunities.
Farmland Preservation: The mission of the Farmland Preservation Circle is to partner with farmers and the community to support farm viability and increase urban agriculture. Members of the circle collaborate on policies and programs related to supporting Wake County farmers and agriculture.
Food Access & Security: The mission of the Food Access & Security Circle is to support and promote access to healthy, affordable food for Wake County residents. Members of the circle collaborate on policies and programs related to food pantries and food relief programs, farmers market access, community gardens, and nutrition.
Food Procurement: The mission of the Food Procurement Circle is to pilot a "values-aligned food procurement" policy/strategy in Wake County institutions like schools, daycare centers, hospitals, and detention centers, prioritizing purchasing meals and meal inputs from smaller local farms and buying more fresh, seasonal, local produce.
Food Recovery: The mission of the Food Recovery Circle is to support the efficient use, distribution, and composting of available food resources in Wake County by discussing and mobilizing around the issues of food recovery through donation and compost. Food Recovery’s work is also tied in with climate change issues.
Economic Development: The mission of the Economic Development Circle is to educate, convene, and collaborate with local partners to foster equitable economic prosperity in Wake County’s food system. Our work currently focuses in two areas: 1) establishing and promoting a living wage standard and 2) advocating for and promoting workforce development and training for quality food system jobs.
Health: The health circle focuses on the overlap between our food and healthcare systems; they are currently working on a Produce Prescription project.
