Innovations for Lifelong Participation: Using Outcome Measures and Exercise Dosing for Adolescents and Adults with Lifelong Disabilities ENROLLMENT FORM
COURSE INFORMATION:
Course Description:
This interactive course addresses clinically relevant outcome measures and evidence-based exercise interventions for adolescents and adults with cerebral palsy and Down syndrome, and other lifelong disabilities.
Using the ICF model and the movement system as a framework, we will address the practical utility of a variety of outcome measures and of exercise based interventions on participation in adult living, work and recreation. Topics include:
1) overview of lifelong disabilities within the ICF Model and discussion of how the movement system brings our practice together across ICF Model components in order to effectively evaluate and treat this population,
2) systematic reviews of the impact of exercise intervention on the mobility and participation roles of adolescents and adults with cerebral palsy and Down syndrome will be discussed,
3) practical application related to providing collaborative, community based PT services to individuals with lifelong disabilities across settings.
Learning objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will
* articulate how using the ICF framework and tenets of the Movement System can shape their approach to evaluation and
intervention of adolescents and adults with lifelong disabilities.
* describe the use of 3 exercise intervention strategies that can be used to improve functional mobility or life skills in
adults or adolescents with lifelong disabilities.
* choose 1 presented outcome measure to integrate into clinical practice at the end of this course.
* collaborate with peers (in discussion groups) to integrate information and brainstorm practical applications of ideas into
their clinical practice.
Knowledge application:
This course will provide the tools necessary for evidence-based decision making in evaluation and intervention selection for adolescents and adults with lifelong disabilities.
Participants will be able to select outcome measures and dosing for intervention activities for people with lifelong disabilities.
Participants will be able to utilize knowledge from this course to inform policy and procedures related to services for people with lifelong disabilities.
COURSE DESIGN: INTERACTIVE ONLINE
The course instructor will be actively engaged with the participants during the time the course is open.
