STRATEGY A: INCLUSIVE, INTEGRATED EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE

Public emergencies can take many forms, and may need different responses. Communities and older adults can plan together to boost resilience and recovery in the face of disaster.

Objective 1: What is a specific idea that could help us achieve supported community education?

Sample Idea: Conduct a statewide emergency planning campaign that includes a toolbox of best practices and universal forms, including a personal care plan, medical information, care and accessibility needs, adequate medicine, pet information, etc. 
Objective 2: What is a specific idea that could help us achieve integrated Emergency Response Systems?

Sample Idea: Increase the number of trainings about Alzheimer's and other dementias that are available to first responders.
STRATEGY B: ELDER JUSTICE 

The Blueprint will strengthen Minnesota’s efforts to promote and uphold the rights of older adults and empower individual choices and values.

Objective 1: What is a specific idea that could help us achieve protection from physical and emotional abuse?

Sample Idea: Increase resources and support to county adult protective services and Tribal nations to build their capacity to identify and support adults who are vulnerable to maltreatment.
Objective 2: What is a specific idea that could help us achieve supportive decision-making?

Sample Idea: Educate and support older adults to complete substitute decision making tools including, the Health Care Directive, Power of Attorney, and Transfer on Death Deed.
Objective 3: What is a specific idea that could help us achieve long-term care rights?

Sample Idea: Require training on mental illness and de-escalation for assisted living staff with some proscribed topics including trauma-informed care, substance use disorder, and common diagnoses.
Objective 4: What is a specific idea that could help us achieve education on financial exploitation and cyber safety?

Sample Idea: Promote technology and cyber safety training through partnerships with Area Agencies on Aging, senior centers, and libraries.
