What is a watershed?

A watershed is an area of land where all of the water that runs off the land eventually ends up in the same place. This means that the water that runs off of your property eventually ends up in our lakes, rivers, and streams. The Fox-Wolf basin is outline on the map shown below. There are several things you can do to help improve the health of our surface waters. Take the watershed pledge today to help protect our state's water resources!

Clean up pet waste and other garbage on my property

Sweep grass clippings off the road, sidewalks, and driveway

Never dump anything into the storm drains

Wash vehicles on the lawn (not on the driveway)

Divert runoff from my roof to my lawn, rain garden, or rain barrel

The most important things to remember are to:

1. Reduce the rate and volume of runoff from your property

2. Reduce your overall water usage

3. Make choices that improve the quality of water running off of your property

This helps us to conserve our fresh water resources and prevent pollutants from reaching our lakes and rivers.
