Petition for the disassociation of USC from the Fossil Fuel Industry

We, the members of the Environmental Student Assembly, call on the Administrative staff at USC to disassociate from the fossil fuel industry and to incorporate Fossil Free Research (FFR) in our current Assignment: Earth initiative. We also advocate for a greater level of transparency in the funding that we receive from the Fossil Fuel Industry.

The University of Southern California (USC) has a long history of collaboration and connections with the fossil fuel industry. Our goal is to advocate for greater transparency from the University for the disassociation from the fossil fuel industry. Humanity's use of fossil fuels is severely damaging to our environment. Fossil fuels cause enormous levels of local pollution where they are produced and used, and their ongoing usage results in lasting harm to the climate crisis of our planet. The funding our university receives from fossil fuel companies continues to influence research initiatives on campus, even creating biased projects aimed at making fossil fuels "more sustainable."

USC must not only look into clean and renewable sources of energy to power our buildings and campus activities, but we must find alternative funding sources so that our research initiatives, too, can be clean. We cannot be blind to our university's role in supporting fossil fuels any longer.

ESA is calling on YOU to sign this petition and contribute to the thousands of others who want to free our campus of fossil fuel initiatives.
