Dear Parents,
Each school in Candler County is represented by a Charter School Governance Team (SGT) composed of parents, faculty/staff, and community members/business leaders. Entering the tenth year of our Charter, Metter High School has two open seats due to term limits. The available seats are for one parent to represent the upcoming 9th Grade Class (Class of 2028) and one parent to represent the upcoming 11th Grade Class (Class of 2026). We are seeking nominations now for membership on this important leadership team and are asking that you consider recommending yourself or someone you know to help serve our school.
The members of the School Governance Teams are accountable to the people they serve and shall:
1. Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues
2. Regularly participate in School Governance Team meetings. Currently meetings are scheduled at 4:00 on Tuesdays and generally take about an hour. Meetings are scheduled to meet up to six times a school year, or as needed.
3. Participate in information and training programs
4. Serve as a link between the SGT and the community
5. Encourage the participation of parents and others within the school community
6. Work to improve student achievement and performance
As a member of the School Governance Team, we would expect you to, after receiving training, be able to provide input/recommendations in the following areas:
∙ Communication and Parent Involvement
∙ Budgets
∙ Resource Allocation
∙ School Improvements
- School Policies and Practices
Please consider becoming a part of this governance team! The window for nominations will be open through Friday, February 23, 2024. Before you nominate someone, we ask that you get their permission to place their name on the ballot. In addition, anyone interested in serving on the SGT may also “self-nominate” him/herself.
An election will be conducted the week of March 4-8, 2024, to elect the new School Governance Team Parent members. Upcoming 9th Grade Parents/Guardians will vote for the 9th Grade Representative and upcoming 11th Grade Parents/Guardians will vote for the 11th Grade Representative that week. A ballot will be made available online.. Thank you for your attention and support in this matter.
