Legal Terms for Dummies

Donnie was not a happy camper for three reasons. First, he was on his couch in handcuffs. Second, cops were searching his fortress. Third, they had seized enough drugs and weapons to earn Donnie an extended prison stay.

“We’re also taking that case of laptops,” Detective Gold said, “unless you got receipts.”

“My lawyer’ll fix it.”

“He’ll file a 1538.5 motion. The D.A. will counter with a Fi-Kee-Lo-Wee petition and you’ll go to prison, minus your stuff.”

“What’s that 1538 thing?”

“Motion to suppress the evidence.”

“And the Fi-Kee-Lo-Wee?” Donnie asked.

“That’s the Finders Keepers Losers Weepers doctrine. Sorry, Donnie.”

Prompt: Finders Keepers
