Please note that your application will be reviewed as soon as possible and we will contact you should we have a slot that meets your volunteering needs and our needs as an organisation.

As a veterinary care provider, we adhere to strict regulations and for this reason, community service volunteers will not be eligible to engage in animal care volunteering.

We take the utmost care to ensure the safety of our animals and volunteers, please take time to read through the rules and indemnity information.

Equine (horses and donkeys) volunteering is only offered to candidates with riding experience.

As a general rule, we do not accept volunteers under the age of 12.

We encourage a variety of volunteering opportunities, both on and off-site.
Community Service Hours - we provide the opportunity to gain two hours of service in a structured format that is outcomes-based.

HOUSE RULES
On Arrival -  PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATION BLOCK to meet with a fundraiser and sign the register.

The premises of SAID are visited entirely at your own risk.

Neither SAID nor its management shall be liable for any injury or loss sustained to any person or property howsoever caused on these premises.

Visitors, volunteers, clients, donors and service-providers are requested not to wander through the Paddocks, Farm Areas or Hospital unless accompanied by an available staff member.

Visits to the facility are only permitted during working hours.

Arrangements and confirmation of your participation will be communicated by the Fundraising Team.

-NO COMMUNITY SERVICE IS MADE AVAILABLE DURING WEEKENDS .
WHAT YOU SHOULD OR SHOULDN’T WEAR
Being a veterinary care provider, we would like to ensure that our biosecurity, the safety of our visitors, patients and personnel is addressed at all times. For this reason we request that the outlined directives be understood and complied with, at all times, during your visit/s. We would also like to make you are aware that volunteering at SAID may include physical labour, exposure to blood and faeces and involve basic veterinary tasks.

Long pants or jeans that can be rolled up to prevent any dragging and absorption of contaminants.

Shorts that cover to the knee.

Loose-fitting T-Shirt that covers your hips and underwear

Closed shoes or boots that have a good grip as you will be working on wet surfaces.

Jersey or raincoat in case of inclement weather.

Wearing of a hat is strongly advised

No skirts or mini shorts will be permitted.

It is advisable for longer hair to be tied up or pinned back.

Jewelry may be worn at your own risk.
GENERAL CONDITIONS
NB: no persons under the age of 12 years may volunteer or participate in our community service programme.

Smoking will not be permitted under the age of 18.

Any smokers must smoke in the designated smoking area for Health and Safety compliance.

No alcohol consumption will be permitted.

We request and advise that valuables, cellphones, money or other personal items be secured in the Fundraising Offices while volunteering.

Please treat our staff members, our animals and our property with the utmost respect.

Please ensure that any wound you may have sustained is properly protected prior to your visit and, then re-dressed after your visit to prevent infection.

Any injury - no matter how minor - sustained during your visit to our farm must be reported to the Hospital Manager immediately.

Our staff are trained in the humane restraint and handling of animals. Please adhere to all instructions promptly.

Should you have any concerns regarding the handling of animals, please express these to the Welfare Manager without delay.

We encourage friendly interaction among our staff and visitors, but no loud or unruly behaviour will be tolerated.

The feeding of animals may only be done under the direction and instruction of the Equine Manager or our professional veterinary care staff. The feeding of patients, when not advised could prove fatal for the animal.

Ensure that your hands are carefully and thoroughly washed after using the toilet, after working with each animal, after cleaning any kennel and, prior to eating any food.

Isolation wards and kennels are strictly out of bounds for all volunteers.

Should you have any disorders, physical limitations or allergies (for example Epilepsy, Asthma, any forms of Autism or social disorders, injuries or physical disabilities) that may impair your ability while volunteering or require immediate treatment, and/or special treatment - Your parents and/or guardian must report these to the Equine Manager or Veterinary Nurse on duty with advice and/or your medication with administering instructions before your participation in our programme. Volunteering with animals by persons with severe cases of any nature as described above, but not limited to, cannot be accepted for community service with animals, for their own safety.

Should you suffer from any form of addiction, past or present, we respectfully decline your participation in our Community Service or Volunteer Programme. We do, however, encourage you to visit and spend time with the animals on our farm. This kind of engagement has been proven to assist individuals through their recovery.
