Covid-19 Protocol Updates

Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Banning Unified School District will be following the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Guidance aligned COVID-19 Safety Protocols put into place to keep your child safe for the 2022-23 school year.
If your child has a Confirmed Positive COVID-19 Test:
  • Isolate for 5 days from symptom onset or positive test date (if no symptoms)
  • Test on day 5 and may return on day 6 with negative test and symptoms significantly improved with no fever for 24 hours and no fever-reducing medication
  • If continuing to test positive on day 5, continue isolation through day 10; may return on day 11 and no further test required
  • Strongly recommended wear a well-fitting mask when sharing indoor space for a total of 10 days
If your child has Close contact with a Positive COVID-19 case and is Asymptomatic with no symptoms:
  • May continue to attend school
  • Test 3-5 days from last exposure
  • May continue to go to school if test is negative
  • If test is positive, isolate immediately and follow protocol for positive COVID-19 test
  • Wear a well-fitting mask when sharing indoor space for a total of 10 days
  • Isolate and test immediately if symptoms develop
If your child has Close contact with a Positive COVID-19 case and is Symptomatic with 1 or more symptoms:
  • Isolate immediately for 5 days
  • Test on day 5
  • May return on day 6 with negative test and symptoms significantly improved with no fever for 24 hours and no fever-reducing medication
  • If test is positive, must continue isolation and follow protocol for positive COVID-19 test
  • Wear a well-fitting mask when sharing indoor space for a total of 10 days
Testing is required for those experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or those who have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive. Symptomatic students and close contacts will be provided with an at-home rapid antigen test by their school. Students who become symptomatic or ill while at school are recommended to wear a mask while being treated at the health office and waiting to be picked up by a parent/guardian. School administrators will provide a rapid antigen test kit for the symptomatic student to take home.
Please also see the Frequently Asked Questions document published by the California Department of  Public Health. If you have questions please call your school site.

Sincerely,

Dr. Barbara Wolford Director of Student Services
