"I would like to host beehives on my property"
This is a sign up sheet if you would like to be put in contact with a beekeeper who is looking for a place to situate honeybee hives. This could be anywhere from 1 to 20 hives, but most likely on the lower end.
It applies to anywhere in the Republic of Ireland.
Requirements for hosts:
A secure, private property, that the beekeeper can access in the summer about once per week to tend to beekeeping activities.
Ideally rural areas, as urban environments tend to be less popular with beekeepers.
There is a place on the property you have in mind that is not too damp (soggy ground very bad for bees) that gets direct sun in the morning and afternoon, but is relatively sheltered.
Bee hives don't take up too much space, but there needs to be a bit of space in front and behind of the site to be able to tend to the bees.
Requirements for beekeepers:
To have access to the site once per week in summer, and irregularly in the off season to check on them.
This is to be arranged between beekeeper and host.
Payment:
The traditional payment for hives being placed on 3rd party property (like yours) is a few jars of honey, per year per hive. This amount is something to be agreed between you and the potential beekeeper.
Swarms.ie's involvement is to facilitate the connection of property owner and beekeeper. Once the connection is made, Swarms.ie is no longer involved in the relationship
