The SUMRICA conference in Teheran
The SUMRICA Conference is open for participants interested in sustainable mobility in the regional context of Central Asia and Iran. The conference concludes the SUMRICA (Sustainable Urban Mobility in Central Asia) research project, which started in 2018. SUMRICA aims to tackle the societal challenges of Central Asian countries and Iran concerning urban mobility by capacity building and increasing academic and professional awareness of sustainable transportation modes. The conference is recommended especially for young researchers, instructors and other professionals interested in directly influencing the future mobility and urban planning trends in Central Asia and Iran.
SUMRICA is being coordinated by the Center for Technology and Society (ZTG) of the Technische Universität Berlin and is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. The project partners are five universities from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan as well as Tarbiat Modares University in Tehran (Iran), which is hosting the final Conference.
Each year the project investigated one topic related to urban mobility in Central Asia and organised a SUMRICA School together with one partner university. With all research rounds now over, the best Scholars of the project will meet for the final Conference in Tehran. In addition, we are planning to have some external researchers with expertise in the SUMRICA project’s topics in a Central Asian or Iranian regional context to present at the Conference.
The three main research fields of SUMRICA are:
1. Land Use/ Transportation Interactions, Integrated Transportation Planning
2. Accessibility and Sustainable Urban Mobility
3. Transport Policies and Governance, Financing Public Transport Systems
