Summer Virtual Academy (SVA) 2024
Piedmont City School District
2024 Summer Virtual Academy (SVA) Overview Statement
Summer Semester: June 4  – July 18, 2024 (ACCESS Classes start June 4- July 18)

Purpose:  Allow for students in the middle and high school to earn high school credits to allow more flexibility within their schedule. Flexibility within a student’s schedule can provide opportunities for more electives, including college dual-enrollment, and the potential to graduate early.

Students will start the summer virtual academy beginning June 4. SVA will end July 18, 2024, and all computers, chargers, and backpacks will be turned in on July 19. It is the responsibility of the parent to find out the meeting dates of SVA.

Students may take one course at a time during the summer virtual academy. Students may drop the course by emailing Dr. Clemons with such instructions up until 3:00 PM on June 7, 2024. Courses dropped by June 7th will not count towards the student’s high school grade point average. If the course is dropped, the registration fee will NOT be refunded and the computer will need to be returned to the school.

Each course taken during SVA will count toward the high school grade point average.

Important Information:
- Students must pay $27 non-refundable registration fee and complete this online application by May 10, 2024. Payments can be made online through PayPal on our school website, www.PiedmontHigh.org, or by mailing a check to Piedmont High School, c/o SVA, 750 Tom Bible Memorial Hwy, Piedmont, AL 36272. Checks should be made out to “Piedmont High School.” If paying by check, complete the form and checks must be postmarked by May 10, 2024. You may also hand deliver the check to the PHS front office before May 10, 2024.
- Meet each week face-to-face, starting June 4, for a minimum of thirty minutes with the course facilitator. These weekly meetings will be used to determine if the student is keeping up with the predetermined weekly goals of completion. If the goals are not met, students will turn in their computer and will be dropped from the course with a grade being assigned that will reflect the current grade factored in with those missing. Due to potential summer conflicts, individual arrangements should be made with the facilitator if the need arises.
- Two weeks of inactivity in a course by the student will result in failure in the course and the computer being taken up.
- With administrative approval, students may take additional classes after they have completed a course.
- Students who finish and pass a course early may keep their computer until July 19, 2024, unless you are a JSU or Gadsden State DE student taking summer classes.
- The administration has the right to refuse a student taking a SVA course. Refunds will be given in the event a student pays and the student is not allowed to take a course.
