Retinal Dystrophies Survey - VisionX
This survey is being conducted by members of the Junior Academy at the New York Academy of Sciences, as part of project VisionX in response to the Wearable Challenge presented by the Academy

VisionX is an innovative solution aimed at addressing Retinal Dystrophies. It makes use of smart lenses paired with a mobile application to enable early diagnosis, personalized assistance, and improved quality of life for individuals affected by retinal degenerative diseases. If you are dealing with one, please take the time out to fill out this quick five-minute survey. If you know someone who might be dealing with the disease, please share it with them. The information we collect is for research purposes only. Your cooperation in this endeavor would be deeply appreciated.

We are currently working on designing smart lenses to address Retinal Dystrophies. They would utilize micro-processor technology and integration of existing methods of diagnosis, specifically OCT technology and AI algorithms, through innovation into our ultra-thin comfortable-to-wear lenses. This would serve as a tool for early diagnosis for high risk individuals, such as family members of those who are already diagnosed with a Retinal Dystrophy, since the disease is genetic.

What do you think about such smart lenses?

Our lenses and mobile application would also work to assist you in your vision. The mobile application would work as a control panel and an interface through which you would be able to communicate with the lenses that would be equipped with Augmented Reality Overlays.
Particularly, it would have the following features:-
- contrast enhancement
- brightness adjustment
- field of vision enhancement
- magnification of specific objects in view
- color filtering
- disease progression tracking

What do you think of these features and do you think they would be helpful to you? If yes, how so?

Please suggest any improvements you would like to see in the functionality/design of our smart lenses/mobile application? *
