Wednesday 28th July 2021 Herne Bay:
Herne Bay, Kent is a quintessential English seaside resort with a pier, a promenade and a Victorian bandstand with a backdrop of grand Victorian architecture. There are plenty of good facilities to be found here including some excellent seafood restaurants and fish and chip shops.
East of the town, beyond the breakwater known as Neptune’s arm, a short drive east will bring the visitor to The King’s Hall.  It is possible to park close by, and the stretch of coast between The King’s Hall and Reculver is a good spot to come for long walks. It is also quite popular with kayakers, boaters and crabbers.
The beach itself is mainly shingle, and a number of groynes stretch out into the sea. Herne Bay east beach is backed by a sea wall and behind that, grassy slopes, known as The Downs are criss-crossed with a number of footpaths. This area is a haven for birdlife and has been designated a Special Protection Area for birds.
From the beach, the cliffs and romantic ruins of Reculver Castle can be seen. The beach at Herne Bay is also great for families. There is sheltered bathing behind the breakwater and everything you need close at hand.
