Please complete the form below if you wish to audition for the ECKMEA District Honor Bands and Jazz Band. Form must be completed by the end of the day on Monday, October 10th.
Auditions will be live/in-person at Gardner-Edgerton High School on Saturday, November 5th. Complete audition details will be shared later in October. For your planning purposes: arrive at GEHS by 7:45 on that morning, and auditions happen throughout the morning/early afternoon. Once you complete your audition, you are done for the day.
WOODWINDS AND BRASS: Be aware that your audition is 4 parts:
- Major Scale chosen from the required scale page
- Chromatic Scale, full range of the instrument, as shown on the required scale page
- Sight reading!
- Prepared Audition Etude. These are excerpts from a solo or etude for your instrument.
PERCUSSIONISTS: Be aware that your audition is a COMPLETE PERCUSSION AUDITION. Meaning you are required to audition on all three instruments - snare, mallets, and timpani. Make sure you are preparing on all three instruments.
JAZZ: Audition requirements are unique to each instrument, but are clearly spelled out at the jazz link above. Materials can be found/downloaded from that link, too.
If you choose, you can audition on multiple Instruments. For example
- Flute players can also audition on piccolo
- Clarinets can audition on regular clarinet and bass
- Saxes can audition on alto, tenor, and/or bari
- Anyone can audition for both band and jazz (on standard big band instruments)
This form will give you the option to register for multiple auditions, if you choose to do so.
FYI: ECKMEA rules do NOT allow you to audition for band/jazz and one of the other honor ensembles (choir/orchestra). If you are also a choir or orchestra member interested in auditioning for that ensemble and also for band or jazz band, you will need to choose. Please talk with our BVN Music Teachers for guidance!
After completing this form, please submit $12 per registered audition, payable to the BVN Band, in a labeled envelope, and turn it into the Blue Box in the Band room. If you register for an audition after the deadline of the end of the day on Monday, October 10th, your audition fee goes up to $25 per audition, as we will have to complete a late registration for you, which is a higher fee.
Students who wish to be in Wind Ensemble SHOULD be taking this audition!
