Gifted and Talented Academic Referral

A gifted/talented student is a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who

●      Exhibits high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area;

●      Possesses an unusual capacity for leadership; or

●      Excels in a specific academic field. (TEX 29.21)

The goal of the Kemp ISD Gifted and Talented program is to recognize and nurture the special qualities and abilities of gifted children. Strategies appropriate and essential for the gifted are implemented in each class to support learners in reaching their academic potential.

Carefully read each of the following descriptions. Each item is followed by a series of examples. Determine to what extent you agree that your child is like the description. Mark your agreement on the scale from strongly agree (SA) to strongly disagree (SD). Mark one number for each item. If you are unclear or haven’t noticed how your child compares to a description, circle the unsure or don’t know phrase. Then, tell us about a time your child did the things in the item. Try to recall specific incidents or examples about your child.
