Affordable Housing Advocacy in Action
This discussion series is a deep dive into the state of affordable housing in West Michigan and how our advocacy can truly impact our communities. The goal of these 5 (five) sessions cohort is to educate and embolden community members and create strong and lasting relationships so like-minded neighbors can together fight for housing choice in their communities. The cohort with dive into the following topics:
  • Why we advocate, crafting our story and commitment to this work
  • Common language and Outcomes thinking
  • Self-Identity and knowing our communities
  • Messaging Do's and Don'ts for advocates
  • Housing History, Fair Housing and Current Data
Over the course of 5 sessions, we will build personal narratives that tell the story of the importance of housing choice and the belief that all people- regardless of their income, familial status, racial or ethnic background, or country of origin- should have a place to call home. Equipped with these narratives, we will also consider how to more effectively engage with neighbors, family members, community leaders, and lawmakers in ways that advance necessary affordable housing policies and programs. Of course, we know that flexing our advocacy muscles can be a bit taxing, so dinner and drinks will be provided to keep us fueled for these essential dialogues!
