Job Description
The President is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations towards SMSA's internal and external growth. The successful candidate will build upon SMSA's mission and values, creating a strategic plan and quantifiable goals that will support the growth of the organization throughout the 2023-2024 academic year. In addition, the President acts as a liaison between faculty and the SMSA for the planning and coordination of events and initiatives. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, willing to take initiative, and actively involved in the Sprott community.

Responsibilities
  • Working closely with the executive team to delegate tasks as needed throughout the academic year:
  • Communicating with the VP Marketing on the overall brand image of the organization

  • Helping the VP Finance with the overall finances and corporate relations portfolio of the organization

  • Overseeing the VP Events with the planning and logistics management of events

  • Attending/Presenting at certain SBSS Events, including General Clubs meetings, the Sprott Annual General Meeting, and club Expos

  • Updating SMSA's Club Advisor (Lisa Lawrence) on events, ideas, and goals for SMSA throughout the year

  • Ensuring SMSA remains accountable to SBSS funding policy and budgeting reporting

  • Adhering to University/Sprott policy for events, such as ensuring risk management forms are filled, that events are promoted in the appropriate calendars and newsletters, and that Employability Passport regulations are followed

Qualifications
  • At least one year of involvement with a Club at Carleton University (does not need to be in a leadership position)
  • Determination and willingness to take initiative

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills

  • Previous leadership and team management experience is considered an asset

SMSA has an amazing club advisor - Lisa Lawrence from BCMC! Being SMSA President requires keeping her updated on all SMSA events by meeting with her several times throughout the year. Are you able to do this?

As a Student Association President under SBSS's Clubs Portfolio, you will be expected to attend and present at certain SBSS updates and events. Are you able to do this?
